New York

New York (sometimes called "New York State" to distinguish it from New York City), is a state in the northeastern United States.

Most of the state's population is concentrated in the southeastern portion of the state around New York City, which is sometimes known as "Downstate", with the other part of the state referred to as "Upstate".

The largest city in the state is, of course, New York city, and the state capital is Albany. Other important cities in New York include Binghamton, Buffalo, Corning, Elmira, Glens Falls, Jamestown, Middletown, Newburgh, Niagara Falls, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, Rome, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, Syracuse, Troy and Utica.

It is difficult to know where to begin when talking about tourist attractions in New York - there is simply so much to see. In New York City, must-see attractions include Broadway Theatre, Central Park, Chinatown, the Empire State Building, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, Little Italy, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations Headquarters. You're also sure to want to see Niagara Falls (in Niagara Falls) - which is surely one of the natural wonders of the world. Students of American history should be sure to visit Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, and the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester. And, if you're looking something for a little bit more active, there is some excellent skiing in New York (the state has twice hosted the Winter Olympics), as well as excellent amusement/water parks such as Six Flags Darien Lake (in Darien), and The Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom (in Queensbury near Lake George).
